I dont think cisco should be demonized by anyone. Of course its high abv can cause problems if consumed in excess, as with any other liquor. I found this website and wanted to try cisco because of the hype created by the horror stories about it. I drank a 375ml after i had been drinking beer all day and i did get a strong buzz, but no hallucinations or two day hangover. Cisco, like anything else should be consumed in moderation. If you drink two 750 ml cisco as described in an experiment with cisco it is the equivalent of drinking a whole bottle of 80 proof liquor. Obviously drinking that much will most likely produce an adverse effect. Today I drank 750ml of Cisco and I am still coherent enough to write this post, I must admit I do drink a lot already so I have a high tolerance. However I have been drinking cisco for a couple of weeks and have yet to go crazy. I enjoy cisco best in a glass with ice, the taste is not half bad. Kind of like kool aid with a ton of alcohol. Anyway, cisco is a cheap way to get a good buzz, but users should be cautious, drinking too much of any liquor can be dangerous. The only adverse effect of cisco I have noticed so far is that I have bags under my eyes the morning after drinking it, regardless of how much sleep I get. I want to try md2020 and wild rose next, I dont know if I can choke down thunderbird or night train as I have heard they taste horrible and turn your mouth black, it might be only for the truly depraved. But I will post on my experience with the above. In conclusion, cisco is a cheap alternative to other liquor and can be a good choice if you like to drink, are on a budget and also responsible.

Thanks, this website is great,
Jeff

When I was at Cambridge University in the late 80s, Thunderbird was my favorite tipple.

I used to drink 2 750ml bottles every day starting at 2pm, to prime myself for the evening drinking session, at which I would drink around ten pints of Stella. With hindsight, I have to say that I was probably drinking too much.

My recollection is that Thunderbird was irredeemably foul, but that it was better than either Special Brew or Super T, and at 3 pounds or so and 18% alcohol was an excellent choice for the mathematically-inclined drinker.

I have since moved to NYC, but am returning to the UK for a 20-something year reunion at college. A group of people are bringing special bottles of wine to the formal black tie dinner, and I would like to bring some Thunderbird. But I understand that it isn't sold in the UK anymore - is this true?

I asked at my NYC wine merchant's recently for a bottle, and the guy stared at me blankly. Can this fine beverage with its "unusual flavor" be this hard to find in NY now?

Just mention a few in Australia.

Generally spirits are taxed at a high rate in Australia, e.g. a $27 bottle of vodka has $23 of tax and excise.

Wines are taxed at 41% on the wholesale price. This equates to about $2.15 for a $10 4 litre cask of wine.

In an odd exception, "neutral spirit derived from grapes" (eg grappa) has no tax or excise.
So fortified wine is much cheaper.

This has led to some weird drinks eg fake Kaluha made from grappa, fake Bailey's made from grappa, fake Tia Maria made from grappa, and a high alcohol content version of Stone's Green Ginger Wine (Stone's MAC - maximum alcohol content 18.5%).

They all taste great to start with (and a really weird smooth texture) , then it feels like all your tendons and nerves are being pulled out by wires, a feeling that lasts for about three days after.

Special mention should be made of "Rosso Antico" and its fake local equivalent "Boronia" - a fortified wine that tastes exactly the same as Benadryl cough medicine.

Favorite: London Red Table Wine
Wanna plug a couple of favorites from outside the US. Back in the early 1970s, at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont., the residence garbage would be full of empties of London Red Table Wine and London White Table Wine. Not sure if it is still around, but at 90 cents a bottle, it was the wine of choice among students. It was hard to keep down, and every weekend all the toilets and sinks would be full of multicolored cheer.

The pride of Beijing China is Red Star liquor, at a buck a bottle. I've only had it in China, but at 40% alcohol, that is a lot of shitface for the dollar. Great paint remover too.

(also it's rude to wipe the bottle first before you drink, one must trust the ability of alcohol to kill germs)

We discovered that if you mix Cisco with perrier (I know) that it tastes almost like italian soda. Add a lime wedge and you're good to go. The cheap vodka feeling is still there, but you can't taste it, so it is basically tolerable.

The train station is quite hard to find. I myself have only been able to catch the 3:75 out of South Buffalo. Cazenovia Liquors on Seneca Street is where you'll be heading to get on board. It is hidden behind the counter in it's refrigeration unit, so you'll have to ask for it by name.

Outlet Liquors on George Urban Boulevard in Depew carries all the other fine wines featured on this website. Left out in the warm open you'll find these selections in the back left, Thunderbird seem to be segregated from the others.

Well, I'm 2/3rds into this 750ml bottle of Brights Pale Dry Select Sherry after drinking 6 ounces of Rum and 2 shots of Tequila and I gotta say boy does this stuff warm you up.

A bum wine, for sure. But I think the review is somewhat inaccurate in that it isn't as sweet as described.

As far as it's intoxicating abilities are concerned I'm not too pleased. Granted, I'm not a bum just a dude looking for a good cheap buzz and so far this hasn't delivered (pun intended).

It purports itself to be 20%ABV and the price $7.75 CAN$ for 750ml, so comparing it should be equal in strength to a 375ml (mickey) of vodka or Rum etc. Definitely not the case for me. While I am suffering from the "hots" this gives it gives none of the mind blanking a good buzz on spirits a real lush yearns for.

I pity bums, having to waste their limited resources on plonk like this. I feel the Niagara Vintners can do better, 25%ABV for the same price and I'm there, otherwise I'll stick to my

This site is a hoot!

I got a good one for you to investigate. One of my girlfriends lives in Orpington in Kent County England. When she visited us, she brought over a six bottle sampler of the different local brews (apparently six was all you could carry on the plane legally). The local brew in Kent is called Cripple Dick. It has 11.5% APV. It is a little smaller than the coke bottles that you got from the machines in the 60's. The label has a holly leaf with the berries in the correct position if you get my drift. When my best friend Jim, after he got finished hooting over the name and the label, asked Jill why do they call it Cripple Dick? Jill looks him dead in the eye and says drink 12 of them and come talk to me luv! Needless to say that scared my two hard core beer swilling guys. They split a bottle between them and they were stupid for quite a while. Apparently it gives a mean hangover too. English beer is alot stronger than what we have over here. I don't know what the current price is any longer to know if it would prove beneficial for the bums to buy a bottle but I couldn't get past the smell to even take a taste LOL! I am attaching a picture of the bottle's label (Pardon the clarity of it, I'm not a great photographer and the label has faded a little). We still have one that has remained sealed for like the last 10 years on our mantle. That should tell you that my hubby wants no part of that beer again. Unfortunately we lost Jim to cancer February 09 or he would be hooting at this site. This has been very informative and I got a good laugh I needed one. If you want a picture of the bottle's label, you'll have to email me. I can't seem to get this guestbook to take the picture. I've sized it down as far as I can get it for you.

Another one for you is Italian Swiss Colony White Port. Back in the early 80's, I used to walk through the near west Loop area in Chicago to UIC from Union Station (used to be skid row before urban renewal). The most predominant bottle I saw smashed on the sidewalk (or run over by the CTA) was ISC white port. It was available in an easily affordable 250ml pocket flask size, and seemed to be the drink of choice then.

When I was a tyke, the world was my technicolor oyster. Then later, I discovered Mad Dog and the world was never the same. The first four sips gave me segmented insect eyes, the next three, universal awareness; as I became accustomed to the taste, I began to molt and become a pure, sick spirit. Each time I drank it and pressed the reset button, I craved it even more. I spent several nights sweaty and cool, in my cardboard capsule, behind the dumpster at the 16 Store. A metaphysical astronaut of smaller stature, my paper container was not identified unless a cop got bored or curious. Later my brethren would check me out to see if any was left, and they often relieved me of the last gulp. Cisco was not available in the Great Southwest, so the dog and I often travelled together. Later, looking back, IQ diminished and no longer an intimate of Mr. Shakes, the fuzzy reverie and cadmium taste visit me at my workaday job. It still brings me a smile or a laugh to know I got out without permanent brain damage.

About ten years ago there was a Mad Dog look-alike that was called, "After Dark". It had a picture of a howling wolf on the label. The juice was Cool-Aid red.

I got it as a gag gift for my birthday, but actually drank it. I seem to remember it having slightly narcotic effects, making me feel the same way NyQuil does. Don't know if they make it anymore. I'll have to do a search.

Stumbled across it while researching cheap wines. Also, as a previous signer said, Prime Time needs to be added...I mean the plastic bottle alone should qualify it for its place in Bumwine.

MD 20/20 and Wild Irish Rose are pretty easy to find, but Night Train has remained elusive for the few years I've been here. Anything would help at this point.

This combination of Concord grape wine and malt liquor would be for the higher end bum but it doesn't really matter because it's not made anymore. The best thing about it was that it really tasted good. Once we went to a football game after drinking a few bottles, I tripped on the steps and fell. Ah, yes... I remember Night Train wine. I was into drinking it around the same time Guns N Roses first started singing about it. On ice. One catastrophic night we were hammering down the Train in preparation for a Thursday night at legendary punk dive Todd's. We were underage and I'd forgotten my fake ID. Went back home to pick it up, only to be intercepted by my mom who informed me that there was no way in hell I was leaving the house in my state. Fully possessed by the personality-twisting powers of the train, I informed her that I WAS going out, grabbed my ID and split. Vaguely remember striking out mightily with a chick I was into and woke up to find myself kicked out of the house. Ah, memories...

Your site is fucking hilarious! I talked you up on my show on Punk Radio Cast. Email me when you've got some men's small tees in (green one)!

One thing you should add to the Thunderbird, is that sometimes it turns your lips and gums black, and others it actually makes your gums recede. I kid you not, when I was half way down a bottle of this stuff, there was an extra bit of tooth showing around my canines! Not so good if you care about your dental hygiene. Back in 1990, I read an article about high school kids going into comas from drinking Cisco. Well, I was sold right there. I had to get me some of that "liquid crack". This was back when the bottles still looked like wine coolers. I started with the Grape flavor, but then spent the extra twent-five cents to get the Cisco Gold flavor. I would drink two of the big bottles and go crazy. I got punched in the face for stealing CDs at a frat party and then punched a friend for no reason. Those were crazy times.

After my one and only experience with Night Train, I woke up with a BIG girl and a hangover. Before I could sneak the large lady out, my room mate saw her. It took years for me to live that one down.

FYI, she did have a cute face though.

For the BMI conscious drinking bum wine may be an invaluable tool (besides a welcome releif from reality). I mean how many fat bums have you ever seen? It certainly helps to keep the weight down when your next meal is usually found inside the dumpster you sleep behind. Climbing in & out of a refuse recepticle is also excellent exercise.

Havin some fun nowWhat a excellent and descriptive writeup you have done on some of my favorite rot gut alcohol induced stupors. I used to be a Cisco lover until I noticed my short and long term memory going out the door. Also it was a little more difficult to communicate on cisco. I would chew on my tongue till it was raw. Fantastic buzz from what I remember. Always drink these fine beverages as cold as possible, your pallet will really appreciate it. What memories..........

*NEWSFLASH*
Even the wonderful judgement skewing effects of Night Train couldn't sway me from the fact that there does exist tiny size (0) F__K toy chicks who can make a wino like me totally insane w/ visions of vertical 69's. And < that can normally only be accomplished by being totally shitfaced on a wonderful liquid refreshment usually found in a crackhead government housing project convenience store.

I can remember the Orange Jubilee in 18% ABV quarts up through the late 90's around Baltimore...Lets just say that more than a few weekends were lost to that stuff.

Just wondering, does Brass Monkey qualify?

Mr NIght Train was in the lab the other day and found another key to the Night Train chemical puzzle.

I inadvertantly spilled a tablespoon of NT (I'm still cryin over the loss) on the lab countertop and the remains dried rather quickly. What was left had a suprising total lack of cheap booze stench and did have a candy-like aftertaste.

Our lab chemical engineer put a sample under the elecron microscope and despite 20+yrs of experience could not 100% indentify the substance. I suspect some type of CIA/NSA MK Ultra chemical meant to turn groups of bums into sleeper cells ready stage another fake terrorist attack to further the Illumenati agenda.

My roommate and I picked up a bottle of Night Train today at the campus liquor store. We are pleased to report that it is the foulest thing either of us have ever drunk. Worse than straight everclear. Thank you for opening our eyes to the horrifying world of bum wine.

I haven't seen Wild Irish Rose around for years, the bottle on this site doesn't look like the little bottles of crap I used to buy after a long night of partying and only having pocket change left--just enough for a couple of short dogs.

Absolutely vile crap but it does get you looped. The problem with this crap wine is that it costs too much compared to a pint of Taaka Vodka which gives you more bang for the buck.

No matter whether it's Taaka, NT, WIR, or T-Bird--it's all bad news. Whatever is in this garbage to fortify it makes sure there's a big price to pay in the hangover which comes from drinking this crap.

This stuff was funny to try for a goof but I sure am glad I didn't have to live life drinking this shit.
