Favorite: Gallo White Port |
A few years ago I asked a small group of bums about their favorite drinks. Since these guys panhandled for money, the cost vs. alcohol content was important to them. They said they liked to buy Gallo White Port.
I thought it was funny that they specified white instead of red. But they had tried both, and there was enough difference in cost vs. alcohol % to make them pick white.

Recently went on a media junket to Louisville and was put up in a swank hotel. Something about slipping a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 Orange Jubilee in a silver ice bucket tickles me. Right now drinking the MD orange with vodka and 7 on ice. One can drink bum wine without being a bum.

Like the site gentlemen, very funny. I would like to ask any visitors to this site the question,'Has any good ever come out of someone drinking a bottle of buckfast?'. I would be very interested to find out. If so could you e-mail me at rainstorms1972@yahoo.co.uk with stories of drunken idiocy. Thankyou very much, R. Martin

I have only heard of Thunderbird and Night train from some songs, i.e. G?n?R "Nightrain". When i was a teenager I was quite curious about these wines..why? I do not know.... Unfortunatelly these glorious beverages are not available in europe, which is really sad. Our finnish equivalents could be "Kulkurin valssi" translated: (this isn?t a joke!!!) "Hobo?s waltz" and "Magyar; table wine"; a horrible hungarian so called "wine". Kulkurin valssi really makes You take a waltz, but sadly not for long. After half a bottle the shape of things to come are extremely blurry... Even the bums are terrified of these two products, better suitable as solvents in the chemical industry. After carefully reviewing all the available info about T-bird and Night train, my conclusion would be that at least Kulkurin valssi could easily have a nice "go" in the states...

I've been staying away from the rotgut for years, ever since my buddies and I chased a fifth of Everclear with a gallon of Wild Irish Rose. We ALL puked, one guy fell into a construction ditch beside the road and was found by the construction crew the next morning. I swear I was hung over at least 2 days. Oh man, this site really brought back some funny memories, thanx!

This site brought back memories of my job working in a homeless shelter in New York City's Bowery district in the early 1970's.
I got a good laugh from the bottles and the "on location" photos.
You left out Gypsy Rose with a seductively dressed woman next to a screen and Twister with its barber pole red and white label.
Thanks for this significant contribution to Americana.

I have never had the unfortunate experience of drinking Thunderbird or Night Train, but if I have to choose between the remainder, I would go with MD. As foul as it is, it at least does not come with the psychotic episodes associated with WIR. I would not recommend any of these wines, but if I have to I will choose MD. I would also like to nominate Manischevitz to this list. Foul stuff.

Dude there is even cheap sake. I'm going to get some tonight. No joke 3.00 a bottle of this shit called Benihana. There are two the orginal and plum flavored. Look on youtube and check me and my boy out. We explore the cheap ways of drinking. Put in lostsoulbb in the search engine. We got two videos . One where we make the infamous compton kooler and one video where my boy downs a 2-11 in five minutes. I'm going to hit my area and take pictures of my liquor store and yeah it has a drive in window.

Funy website. I swear some of the bums around here drink cheap dollar-store versions of Listerine. It is about 20% alcohol. I've seen them passed out in a pool of piss with empty bottles of this stuff around them; I guess perhaps they at least had nice minty breath.

One night in the late 70's me and my pals Boomer and Fatburger. only had some thing like $1.60 so we go to this liqour store and ask the clerk what he had that would give us all a buzz.He grabs one of those poles with the grabby-things on the end of it; reaches up to what seemed like the 50th freaking self and pulls down the dustiest bottle I ever seen.He gets three of them off the shelf one pint for each of us. Older less ignorant people might have gotton suspicious of this. The guy did not card us or anything. He just plain sold it to us. It is now obvious that my cro-magnon friends and myself were an excellant opportunity to get rid of some otherwise immovable product. And talk about a fucking hangover! never drink this shit any where in the world were there is even a minute threat of sunshine the next day. I am warning you;enimies included stay away from the red ho!

Favorite: I'm not sure Favorite is appropriate title but MD 20/20 Blue Rasberry |
...So I randomly came upon this website - it was inspiring. Shortly after I went to the local liquor store to purchase my first bottle of MD 20/20, Blue Rasberry of course because I was excited to see that bum wine is wearing bling bling these days and I also heard a rumor that it was endorsed by Snoop Dogg and logic told me that if Snoop Dogg endorses something its probably worth it, (Weed and Protected Sex are both glorious). Anyhow, after swilling just 3/4 a bottle of this nasty concoction I was on my way to being blacked out. It tastes like the blue rasberry scent of those scented markers you used to use when you were a kid... incredibly nasty. 9 hours after passing out in my bed apparently I wake up with one of the worst hangovers of my life and the blue chemical rasberry seeping up from my stomach. I don't drink that shit anymore but instead trick my unsuspecting friends by putting $1 towards a bottle of the 20/20 then making them finish it and watching back as they quiver in an alcoholic coma and disgust, truly magical.

I believe in supporting the local economy. I am from a town about 25 minutes south of Westfield, where Mad Dog was spawned. I can't complain for a buck fifty nine, the pseudo raspberry flavor masked the otherwise foul brew, a damn cheap buzz, especially since I managed to down 2 bottles of the stuff. Compare this to the Wild I, I dumped out the bottle after 2 gulps. Goodness Almighty, I almost feel I'm back to my Navy days!

We also get 2 litre jugs for that price but the boxes are taking over as they can be hidden in the laundry or closet more easily.

Don't drink anymore, but many years ago I liked MD 20/20. One experience I had was after finishing a couple of bottles of the shit, I ended up in front of a mirror with a 357 Magnum doing my best Robert DeNiro.( Are you talking to me? You can't be talking to me!) Well, the gun goes off,the bullet goes thru the bedroom wall and straight thru my closet.Put a bullet hole thru every fucking shirt I owned. One bottle would just give me a headache, but the second bottle would do the trick.

OK this is going back 28 years. In my drinking days I tried damn near everything, including bum wines. I could drink Mad Dog but after the first few time I KNEW I would be vomiting, so much so I could casually park myself by a dorm window and drink it until I casually made a technicolor yawn out the window.
Enough about my bones. I am desprately seeking any info on a bum wine called (if I recall correctly) "Aunt Tillie's Orange Blossom". It was St. Patrick's Day 1979 and an older cousin let me use his parents house as a "staging area" before I would be going out to my own partying. He had this bottle of wine that he and his friends were wary of because it had such a high alcohol content (and he and his friends were no lightweights when it came to drinking). It tasted like orange Kool Aide, Pledge and cat piss. I downed it quite easily. They left and I went on my own adventures. I know I went to at least ONE party that night. Smoked a few joints, chugged some J.D., drank some beers. The odd thing is that I was totally smashed but I recollect "flashes" of being in many different parts of town. I was 15 didn't drive, walked a lot, but still this stuff seemed to remove all higher functioning brain activity while giving me a LOT of energy and that "bullet proof" attitude. Oh I may have gotten into a fight or two as well. Wound up with my cousin shaking me bitching that I had vomited all over his house.(seems I could find my way back) His folks were home by then and of course the shit hit the fan. I swear though that I have NEVER had such a hangover in my life, a solid three days until I felt normal. I'm 43 now and have drunk enough beer, wine and hard liquer to float a battleship around. Still I can't find anything about AUNT TILLIE'S. Please anyone that remembers this or knows where it is sold or has a lable scan contact me!

I go to IU in bloomington. I am a senior this year and me and my friends wanted to do something crazy for little 500. On the way to a party we happened by a village pantry and one of my budies looked at us all and with a look of craziness spoke the words, "MAD DOG?". All six of us proceeded to buy a bottle for ourselves of varying flavors. We ended up just chilling on the sidewalk outside of the party because we didnt know if it was the right one. We partied in true bum-like style on the street for the night making occasional runs back to the VP for more of that magical drink.

One word for those looking to blow their frontal lobe out of their skull for good. It's not even close to being a bum wine, but follow this shit up WITH a bum wine and damn if it's not just sheer skull-fucking at its finest: ***Everclear***
A guy named Apache Sunrise (homosexual, paralyzed Inidan in a wheel chair) back in Los Angeles was challenged to a drinking competition. Be it for an Indian to not pass that up...he slammed 9 shots with no chasers...puked and fell out of his wheel chair. We were going to take him to the hospital, but he was too fat, wasted and grabbing for our balls...so we left him there and broke out the bum wine. Yeuh!

To further our knowledge of the fine Bumwines we imported from FL 375ml Apple, Orange, Raspberry, and Berry Cisco, 750ml Nighttrain, Thunderbird, and MD 20/20 Raspberry ?Bling Bling?. As of now 6:05pm I am ? way done with the Apple Cisco and Beezer is the same with his Orange Cisco. Beezer is starting to head into that ?Feeling good phase? as he put it but also is aware that he wants to be more violent. I concur. As for flavor I feel that it is reminiscent of Manichvits (sp?) mixed with apple schnapps with some Windex thrown in for fun. Beezer feels it ?is just MD 20/20 with some flat Sunkist soda mixed in. We hope to continue with updates but who is to know how this will go. Beezer just informed me that he can feel his ?sense humor waning?.

T bird rocks. It is so fuckin nasty, only the real drunks known as the OG's (Original Gangstas) drink it on the Res.
I grew up next to an Indian reservation in WA state, where some of the OG's would get so blasted on cheap wine, they might forget where they are and fall asleep at the bus station in a puddle of their own piss.
My favorite OG was Gooy Duck, named after the giant clam that grows in the tidal sands of the northwest bays. He was so fucked up one time, I saw him trip over a crack in the sidewalk and eat shit right in the middle of town. It must hve been about 9 AM.

As a like many fraternity guys I have consumed my fair share of cheap wine...usually heated up to a nice hot temp. You left out one really cheap wine they sell in Michigan. It's called "Cool Breeze." It's hard to find but it's a very prime drink. I think it was averaging around $2.50 to $3.00 a bottle. Another really good cheap wine that I didn't see on here is Thunderbird's TC aka Thunder Cola. Tastes like Nightrain and Wild Irish Rose mixed. VERY NICE FLAVOR to say the least.

Perhaps my tollerance is just to high, but at any rate the only things these bum wines are good for is a pregame at best, but i save myself the trouble and just take a few shots before heading to the bar.

All the bums over here just get tanked on super-strength lager and white cider, Buckfast is out of their price league...and MD 20/20 is for teenage girls only. Recently saw Blue T Bird on the shelves but the Red stuff has been AWOL for a few years now. Lucky Yanks.

Here's another example of lowlife ingenuity... I grew up in SE Michigan and we had four cider mills within a twenty mile radius of my hometown. During the season, a gallon of apple cider could be purchased for around a dollar from any of these establishments. All one had to do was park the jug in a cool, dark place for a week or so (watching for the telltale bubbles on top and venting as needed) then consume. Locally known as 'Applejack', this shit could produce a wildly crazed drunk in short order. Didn't taste bad at all but the aftereffects were nothing short of awesome.... suicide was defintely an option as the hangover had some serious staying power and no amount of water or painkillers could make a dent. Only another application of Applejack provided relief. Needless to say, this cycle resembled a gerbil on a wheel, lots of action, no progress. The only thing that forced an end to this was the fact that the cider production was strictly seasonal. Us cheap-ass fuckers loved the fall binges, we were often found passed out in a corner with an arm wrapped protectively around a partially consumed jug for all to laugh at....

Hello fellow Bum Wine followers. I asked a friend of mine that worked for the Indian Bureau about the favorite Native American beverage of choice. She said that in South Dakota 20 yrs ago that Thunderbird was the overwhelming choice. She said there is a road with more drunks killed per mile than any road in the country & that the roads across from the reservation were filled with beer & liquor stores that restocked from fully loaded 18 wheel semis. MAN that's some industrial drinking!!! I was told about the glittering green mountains of Gallo's finest. I am still on the wagon tho was tempted to drink a toast to Ernest Gallo's passing. See you soon. Chief

For the first time on Saturday night I downed an entire 750 ml of Cisco. It did exactly what the description on the site said. I became topless and violent lol. Of course I dont remember about 75% of what happened that night. I'm the only idiot that was drinking Cisco. Everyone was shocked at my behavior. I was in denial. The next day my mother asked me if I was taking crack lmao.

Killer site! Saw a couple references to Bali-Hai in the guestbook. While probably not a true bumwine it does rank right up there on the foul taste category and definitely qualifies in the vomit/hangover category.... Had a well and truly disgusting experience w/ the stuff when I was a teenager. After we recovered from the bender, we decided on the term "technicolor yawn" as a descriptive for what came up after the combination of a massive italian food dinner followed by several bottles of Bali-Hai. Hint: make sure somebody owns a carpet cleaner....

I find no mention of Silver Satin. Liquor stores here don't keep it on the shelves but if you ask for it they'll go in the back room and get a 1/2 gallon for you. The old-time Scandinavians up here use it to pickle northern pike. Another one from back in the day was Gibsons White Port. Not really a bum wine but T J Swan had Mellow Days and Easy Nights, yum!
